Overwhelmed by Support

The part of a tree that is rarely seen is the root system. The strength of that root system provides the stability and support the tree needs in times of uncertain weather. And our community is looking at some uncertainty as we grow upward and outward in the near future.

  • What will the new growth bring?

  • Will our infrastructure support the projected influx of people, and school-aged kids?

  • Will our local governing bodies unite for the greater good, rather than remain divided and party-minded?

  • Will we have the housing and jobs needed?

I believe the answer is “YES!”

I believe we can be united and strong.

I believe that we can work together for the greater good.

I believe that we still have hope for a #OneNewton.

As I have begun the campaign process, I have been overwhelmed by the support of so many people. I may be the visible tree that speaks and advocates for the citizens of District One, (and collectively for the best interest of our students and teachers across the entire county) but the strong root system is comprised of family, friends, and more like-minded people than I could have ever imagined. You may never see that whole root system, but I promise you, IT. IS. THERE. Seriously, yall, I have been overwhelmed.

I had 50 yard signs printed. And within 24 hours all of them were spoken-for. So, I asked the printer for another 50, and those are nearly gone, too. In that same time, several folks sent financial contributions to help support and spread the word. And one local business owner asked if I had any “big signs” that he could put in strategic locations around town, and my reply was, “I’d love to do that, but I don’t have the resources to make it happen.” Not only did he flip open his checkbook, but he volunteered to get the big signs in the ground. Again, overwhelmed by the generosity and support.

Lastly, my brother was grilling me about signs, locations, and my campaign-ing. And I confessed to him that I wasn’t very good at talking about myself or asking for money; I told him it felt icky and self-promoting. He was quick to reply and remind me that this is NOT “self-promotion,” rather, this is advocating for what is best for the constituents of District One, what is best for Newton County, and what is best for our teachers and kids. Man, I needed that reminder…and his help! He has encouraged me with his support and his actions. Just so overwhelmed by the support.

Thank you for your help folks. You are the unseen roots that give us the support and strength we need to be a healthy school system.
